Damn you presents a special evening of Live Music

01 Mar 2012

Free, 9.30pm - late

It gives us great pleasure to bring our friends NLF3 from Paris to Nottingham again.

NLF3

"French pan‐global psych trio NLF3, two brothers in blood and a third in passion, play drifting yet highly focused instrumental music. Formed in Paris in 2000, they left behind a post punk past as Prohibition whose supporters included Cornershop and Fugazi to adopt the more abstract and opened stylings of instrumental rock.

NLF3's music is cyclical, textured and emotional, halfway between movie scores and innovative psychedelic transgressions. The band cites influences such as Aphex Twin, Fela Kuti, Ennio Morricone or Sonic Youth ‐ mixing a lot of electronics together with a wide variety of instruments. At the forefront of a Paris scene for over 10 years, evolving from an indie‐rock circuit towards multidisciplinary projects, including scoring soundtracks propositions to old cinema treasures, NLF3 are constantly pushing the musical boundries in an inspired attempt to avoid stasis. Always inventive, they carry with each release a more charming, driven and surprising sound of their own; the new album contains both fast tempo operations, dreamy landscapes, powerful lines, multiple grooves and shiny sounds. Compact, generous and passionate. In that regard, their kinship with Battles and Animal Collective, with whom they have toured, seems perfectly natural ‐ they all belong to the same generation of musicians and have the same desire to discover new territory, to explore new possibilities and to bring together past and future"

"If the idea of a band consisting of just 2 drummers brings to mind a hippy bongo nightmare then you've obviously never heard Rattle. Comprising of 2 of Nottingham's most unique and recognisable drummers (Theresa Wrigley of Fists and Katharine Brown of Kogumaza) and aided by Kogumaza's Mark Spivey they create a hypnotic and danceable music form that recalls This Heat or ESG even whilst remaining completely their own"

DJing will be Joey Bell from the Music Exchange.
