Nottingham Contemporary to open on 14th November 2009

Sir Nicholas Serota, Director of the Tate, visited Nottingham yesterday to make a special announcement. Children from Haydn Primary School helped him unroll a special banner that revealed our opening date - Saturday, 14th November. Sir Nicholas also toured the building, now nearly finished. "Quite simply, it will be one of the best spaces for art and culture anywhere in Europe. It is going to have some of the most beautiful galleries anywhere in the country. The Tate is really delighted to be working with Nottingham Contemporary," he said.

Nottingham Contemporary is a pioneering member of Tate Connects, a new organisation that will let us borrow from the Tate collection and share expertise.

Alex Farquharson, Nottingham Contemporary's Director said, "We look forward to welcoming everyone into our building on 14th November. We will soon be announcing our opening exhibition. I can tell you that it will include works by a world famous artist that will attract international attention to Nottingham."

Children from the Haydn Primary School have been working with our learning team to tell us what they would like to do in our new building. They had lots of questions for Sir Nicholas, including asking what his favourite painting from the Tate collection was. He said it changed everyday, but today it was, Whaam! by Roy Lichtenstein.
